Dead Phones
The Coke Dares
Liquor Store

Shingles

The Three men of The Coke Dares like to play music. They have a lot of songs too. They aren't political, but they are egalitarian-so they all sing. They take turns and they sing at the same time. Jason Mark and Pete play 25 songs in one set! But it doesn't take long because the songs are short-Some are really short. Short, but they're full songs - with lyrics - lots of lyrics. These guys will sing about anything from signing contracts to chasing rats. Variety. Spice of life. Freedom of choice. Optimism. Bad attitudes. American Midwest. Bloomington IN to be exact.

The Coke Dares drive a Chevy and when they do they turn the radio to classic rock. Then they throw in a wipers tape. And then maybe Alien Lanes. To sound like a well oiled rock machine you gotta oil that sucker and keep it firing. 10W-40 or whatever you got on the shelf. The fellas Aren't exclusive., neither. They are also the big block rhythm section of the Magnolia Electric Co. They also lend their skills to the Impossible Shapes and previously John Wilkes Booze, Panoply Academy, Scout Niblett, Jen Lekman etc. The Coke Dares keep busy. The throttle sticks. No time for the shop. Record an album after work.

Summer of Riesling Wine Tasting
The Black Hollies
The Nouvellas
Himalaya
Lights On
21+

Note: You must be at least 21 years of age to attend this event.

During the summer of 2008, the team behind Terroir Wine Bar and Hearth Restaurant—namely, co-owner Paul Grieco and graphic maestro Steven Solomon—started pouring only Riesling by the glass as an invitation for guests to explore the world of their favorite grape juice. It was then that Summer of Riesling was birthed, and it now continues at Terroir E.Vil and the new Terroir | Tribeca.

As Riesling continues to excite—with its myriad locations of origin and styles ranging from dry to sweet—Grieco is looking for ways to celebrate the varietal. For the raging Terrorists, a rocking Riesling concert at The Knitting Factory is the ideal way to do so.

On Wednesday, July 14th, the Summer of Riesling presents musical line-up that includes indie bands Himalaya, Nouvellas, Lights On and Black Hollies. As far back as we can recall it is the first concert ever hosted by a grape varietal, featuring four bands and a fuder of Riesling. To further liven up the party, seven different Rieslings will be poured throughout the night. Ticket price includes four glasses of wine per person. The evening begins at 8pm.

Jarrod Gorbel (of The Honorary Title)

When Jarrod Gorbel began writing new songs for his band The Honorary Title last year, he was exhausted from the trip his musical career had taken. He had dealt with an ever-changing band lineup, label switches, personal demons and crises, and the overall ego battering that comes with the current evolution of the music industry. Though the past couple years had been a nightmarish roller-coaster ride, they were also part of a crucial rite of passage for Gorbel. By last summer, he knew he had to find a way to create something closer to his own heart: unfiltered, unbiased, produced in a way that didn't veer too far from the songs' original intention. The results are Gorbel's best songs yet, mining classic soul, traditional folk and Americana, and incorporating strings, horns and female backing vocals for a sound more lush and organic than any of his previous work.

El Ten Eleven
Dosh
On-sale: Saturday, July 10th

El Ten Eleven is a Los Angeles-based instrumental indie rock duo consisting of Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty. They officially formed in 2003, but Dunn and Fogarty have been working together musically for years in bands such as The Softlightes (first American band signed to Australia's Modular label) and The Incredible Moses Leroy.

What really separates El Ten Eleven from their musical peers is that they are only two musicians on stage creating pounding landscapes of sound with no laptops or sequencers. Kristian Dunn switches off (sometimes mid-song) between a double-neck bass/guitar, and a fretless bass, while his feet dance on an extensive floorboard of looping devices and effects pedals. He plays everything live, loops himself and juggles all of the layers of tracks on top of each other. Drummer Tim Fogarty switches between traditional acoustic drums, roto toms and electronic drum-pads, usually within each song. To add to the insanity, Fogarty will occasionally loop himself as well.

Cotton Jones
Pepper Rabbit

The music of Cotton Jones speaks of transition: the passage from one form, state of mind, style or place to another. Songs become doorways to the past, or windows that open on some unnamed future, where innocence can still exist and perfection is thrown to the wind.

Wanda Jackson

Wanda Jackson was only halfway through high school when, in 1954, country singer Hank Thompson heard her on an Oklahoma City radio show and asked her to record with his band, the Brazos Valley Boys. By the end of the decade, Jackson had become one of America's first major female country and rockabilly singers.

Jackson insisted on finishing high school before hitting the road. When she did, her father came with her. Her mother made and helped design Wanda's stage outfits. "I was the first one to put some glamour in the country music — fringe dresses, high heels, long earrings," Jackson said of these outfits. When Jackson first toured in 1955 and 1956, she was placed on a bill with none other than Elvis Presley.

In 2009, it was announced that Wanda would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, and Bruce Springsteen were just a few artists who encouraged the Hall to induct the Rock N Roll Queen over the last few years.

FREE Comedy Night feat. Hannibal Buress
with guests Jessimae Peluso, Ted Alexandro, TuRae, Jeffrey Joseph, & Mike Lawrence

New York Magazine: "Hannibal Buress was one of ten comedians New York told you to watch. Since then, he's proven us prophetic, becoming one of the scene's best with his minimalist delivery and a series of finely-constructed staple jokes. He starts a weekly Sunday residency at Knitting Factory's new Brooklyn location November 15, which may be the only place you can catch him for a while — otherwise, he'll be keeping busy as a member of Saturday Night Live's writing staff this season. Vulture talked with Buress about performing in the city, landing the SNL gig, and after-after-parties."
