Tonights the night! Curtis Kulig & Skullphone present: SCRIPTURE

For more than seven years, Skullphone and Kulig have productively supported each other in outdoor
installations. In Scripture, both artists' iconic motifs are formally exemplified. Additionally, a glimpse
into their different painting styles is captured in a "window-shopping" style video installation. Although
the artworks blend seamlessly throughout the installation, each artists' distinctive direction stands alone.

Skullphone continues his Digital Media paintings at Mallick Williams with three distinct groupings:
a series of crosses, circles, and a reflection wall. Skullphone's paintings employ a deliberate grid
system of red, blue, and green paint on mirror-polished aluminum panels resembling LEDs. The
artist documents our world - one which is increasingly communicating with brief encounters via
technology - through a laborious painting process.

Curtis Kulig has innovated his own technique by smearing his cursive "Love Me" script on canvas as
opposed to his standard process of scrawling onto buildings, walls and streets. Overall, viewers are
reminded of the adored or hated, scratched and buffed "Love Me" seen throughout vast public spaces.
The repetition of his writing on the street is echoed in the repeated graphic and similar dimension of
each panel. The phrase mirrors the pleas of all individuals to find security in their own cities.

With the smoke now cleared - though the buzz still remains - PangeaSeed would like to share some of the "Hype and Cheers" floating around the interweb regarding our little ol' shark saving art exhibition Sink or Swim ~ San Francisco.

The show also included prints and original artwork Dan May, Dave Kinsey, Ingri Haraldsen, Jen Lobo, Jessica Ward, Kevin Earl Taylor, Mike Stilkey, Paul Chatem, Roland Tamayo and more and only ran until Sunday, but you can still keep an eye out on the PangeaSeed website for additional print releases, or contact Spoke Art for artwork inquiries. All proceeds from this exhibition goes to help save the sharks.Wilson, Rhys Cooper and Tapecat. A line of over 100 people stretched down the block as people waited to get their hands on a coveted Josh Keyes' print. 'Sink or Swim' ends its weekend run later this evening, Sunday September 25th, with a closing party, non San Franciscans will get their chance to purchase the remaining original works, and prints, in the weeks to come via PangeaSeed. [...] Shark finning involves fishermen hooking a shark while the fish is in the water and then loading it onto the boat. Once on the boat, the shark is restrained while its fins are sliced off one by one. Still alive, but limbless, the shark is thrown back into the water. What follows is a slow and likely agonizing death for the shark. The fish will either starve, drown, or be slowly eaten by other fish.

PangeaSeed is using all its resources to smoke this bastard out of its hole and force it into the global spotlight. This past Friday, September 23rd the organization partnered with Hi-Fructose web editor Ken Harman's "Spoke Art" gallery in San Francisco and debuted their first U.S. art exhibit. In the build up to Sink or Swim San Francisco, artists Spencer Cunningham Keeton, Aaron Glasson and Rah Akaishi with the help of Graham and Mike collaborated on this huge painting on a truck belonging to local SF legend Uncle Earl. The huge piece took around 30 hours to complete, just in time for the exhibition opening on Friday the 23rd of September at Spoke Art Gallery on Sutter Street, San Francisco, featuring over 40 great artists from around the globe coming together to help save sharks.

A little round up of some upmarket Banksy news over which I'm guessing he has little control and a review of another recently released Banksy locations app:

Partners in crime Bankrobber Gallery and the Keszler Gallery have teamed up to have a show of their cut out of the wall Banksy pieces. They have a ridiculous looking video, all dark and mysterious and more than a bit cliched, which documents their journey to basically buy a piece of wall. Apparently they are at pains to point out that they didn't organise the work being taken from the street in its original location of Palestine, they just bought it after it had been removed to sell on to someone else at what they no doubt will hope to be a huge profit. This is pretty much the street art equivalent of saying "we're only selling ivory, we didn't actually kill the elephant ourselves".

Bonhams meanwhile had an auction of authenticated Banksy works which went for serious money including screen prints at £13K and canvases for up to 100K. It would seem that while shares are on the slide the world over the art market remains in places very buouyant.

Sotheby's have some Banksy pieces coming up too. 'Ballerina With Action Man Parts', a version of which was on show at 2009's Banksy versus Bristol Museum Exhibition, is from an edition of 6 and has a guide price of £40,000 to £60,000.

'Bullet Proof David', constructed out of enamel. Fibreglass and wax from an edition of three one of which was seen at the Cans Festival is expected to sell for between £120,000 to £180,000. Finally a bronze rat from an edition of 12 has an estimate of £50,000 to £70,000. This piece is unique in that it has acrylic paint on the rat's brush.

So it was the the Creme' de la Creme' of the Fashion World. It was a jubilee of jewelry from necks to napes where Haute Couture played the background and let todays real woman stand in front and shine above the rest. It's where the fashion fiends get there fix. Where the well dressed get there dose of medicine. Yet the best part of shooting Fashion Week was my obliviousness to the fact there of. Look, I know the name Anna Wintour, who doesn't? Shes like the mother hen of fashion. Shes the one who says if it looks good or not. The make you or break you moment right before prom night. Then there's the name Hamish Bowles. Ever heard it? No? Well me neither. but if you want to go anywhere in the fashion world ( some do ) The man of men in fashion. The knighted know it all who lets you know but if your in the know, then you should also know the names of (shameless name dropping plug for searching & tag purposes :) Bryan Boy, Anna Dello Russo, Susie Bubble, and Corine Roitfeld to name a few names, all concentrated under one big huge white tent! The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center! An amazing venue for an amazing show about to go underway. The host, who else but the greatest car manufacturer in the world Mercedes-Benz to host the chase down the runway of next years must have looks. Mercedes-Benz provided an incredible time for the Style Cartel and myself to cruise around the town in the worlds first ever Fashion Ranger ML350. Cruising through the streets snapping photos of the elite few flaunting there wares on the concrete streets of New York City.

So my first day I had know idea what to expect, I for one have never shot a live fashion show as a job. Meaning, I have never been hired to shoot a show.. shit, I've barely been hired to do anything other than get let go after a while...lol.. so I had no idea what to expect. No idea how to act or behave either...lol. The other photographers are either really really cool, real meanies that push and shove they way to the back cause to the front they aint going if I'm there... (brooklyn where you at?) or interns being used and taken advantage of. Yes even in the word of fashion interns are merely peons in the eyes of the kings and mostly queens of todays moda.

Well in the photographers pit I made my own row and or found myself a spot somewhere near this guy Rich aka Totally Cool who ran the show. Really, he told who to sit, stand or where to place there mono and tri-pods. He's a f*cking Rockstar in his own rights! he does and says what he wants to whomever he wants. Security was taking orders from this guy. This guy Rich aka Totally Cool unofficially runs the photographers pit during fashion week. No one knows how or who he works for, but knows if you mess with Rich, you aint cool and you might not get that shot you need, and not getting the shot means missing your shot at getting that check...

I'll explain; The photographers pit is a highly respectable yet degradable type of place. There is no fashion world without the photographer. Plain and simple. Argue what you may but, the images of trends to come, the unseen seams of tomorrows scene is what the photographer brings into focus and onto all those magazine covers, web pages and billboards. Without the press there is no irony in the ironing of an evening gown to tout about the town at night and no reason for this parade on the runway. As much as security will assist you in anything you need for the show yet they will easily eject you if your out of focus with what THEY are saying. Stay in line, play and protect your position, knowing that getting the right angle isn't always the best one but full frontal fashion forward facing is where you want to shoot from.
So day one was as interesting as your first day at school. No really, it was a frigging fashion show people...lol, and if you've ever been to school on the first day in any of he five boros of the greatest place on earth - New York City.... than you know what the nervousness is all about. Everyone had on there finest threads. The best dressed were the ones who took the least time in preparation. Simplicity ruled with big bright colors and intricate patterns on simple palettes and not the outfits that could only fit the Miss Lady Gaga and or Nicki Minaj..

The Argentine Show: a Collective of designers form Argentina. There theme was colorful and representative of the modern day patterns found on the native African Woman of today and funtional clothing that lets the wearer bare there essentials without forsaking fashion:

The Alexander Wang show was the one you had to fight your way into. I got there as early as could be so I could get some street shots and ensure I had the best spot to shoot from. The style was one of intricate design tightly sewn and woven together on palettes of leather and stretch providing elasticity for todays trends yet looking towards a futuristic type of fashion.

All the way there it was a fun time shooting Terry Richardson & the Iconic Courtney Love.

Had a really really great time at the Alexander Wang show all thanks to Terry Richardson who walked me in after the big queen bear at the door said NO to me. Ha Ha.. its not who you are or where you are but who you know when you need to be known.

Next up we have my favorite of all the shows...

Betsey Johnson

Words can't describe the energy in this show. The way the girls worked the runway was really Betsey Johnson at her best. No other show carried as much girly girl attitude then the stunning pussycat dolls strutting there stuff on the catwalk. I thought i was watching a burlesque show at one point. The stage was set, the curtain had been raised and the first model to parade the runway was, who-else but Betsey's own daughter the lovely Lulu. Bababooie! Draw dropping curves that never stopped turnign the heads as she pounced on the runway showing the New York audience how lovely she was walking for the girls in true mommy dearest fashion. My words are mere deterences and distractions to what my pictures have to offer.. Hope you enjoy them as much as i do.

The BRISK Bodega pilot program is set to come to life in New York City on September 17th, 2011, featuring a pop-up bodega experience/gallery, as well as a one-time only Shady Records live exhibit. Hosted at 159 Bleecker Street in Manhattan's West Village, the venue will be open to the public during the day from 11 AM to 5 PM, showcasing a never-before-seen collection of Shady Records' historic memorabilia, the physical set from the highly successful Brisk Super Bowl TV spot (featuring a "claymated" Eminem puppet), artwork from a Tristan Eaton-designed Yelawolf tour bus, as well as custom bodega-inspired art from New York artist ArtekNYC.

The ever so fabulous Charlotte of the Style Cartel

Our mission: To drive around the traffic infested streets of the greatest place in the world, New York City during Mercedes-Benz fashion week in the Mercedes-Benz ML 350 Fashion Ranger. We started out in front of Lincoln Center at 215ish were greeted and meeted by Darryl, who was just the coolest guy in the world a native New Yorker who set on an expedition and got the Fashion Ranger around town without getting caught in the web of traffic that was and makes this, the greatest place on earth.

We started snapping away at the runway tape outside the Donna Karan show where we found a charming childhood crush of mine. As pretty as a rose she was in her red gown on the arm of another gentle fellow, charmed I'm sure. < insert witty ending remark here >... Oh Though so delighted to see my reflection in the eyes of a fashion manic Anna Dellorusso all while looking to be looked at by the look so many came to see...huh? You know what I mean... So what if we didn't get no photo love from Antwon aka Mr stylist to the stars of yesteryear who don't work anymore...Lol at him asking to share a ride to be driven to the next show :) Love was in the air as the boys and girls, the dictators and dutchesses of design carpeted 26th street and made the Fashion Ranger a symbol of Fashionalism ..

But the most highest award went to the Prince of Panache.. the most respectable and admirable... the one and only...Hamish Bowles . Yes the man who was the talk of the town with his straw tote that was one to tout about. Out matching the Fashion Ranger in a final fashion showdown we were no match for the needle and sew of the front row- so off to the streets of Soho where I found the lovely Ladies of Loreal outside the Dash NYC Boutique, Butt not the beautiful Kardashian sisters...as we started to sigh the Lovey Emily of Loreal and gave us some spritz and shined up the photo-op with us on the hood of the Ranger. Hair set and ready to go start heading through historical St Marks to pick up and maybe take in some of the Trash & Vaudeville scene all while we cruise down to the Lower East Side and Say hi to the Ambassadors of street wear over on Rivington Street. Hence we spotted a new K1X spot on Lafayette Street, got laced up, gave a pound and did a full creative 360 back to the tents at Lincoln Square.

JR's Inside Out Project Invites Thousands of Israelis and Palestinians to Show Their Faces

Time is Now, Yalla! – JR to Provide Photobooths for ALL to Take Photo and Paste the Streets

Paris (September 3, 2011) – Artist and TED Prize winner JR today unveiled Time is Now, Yalla! – part of his Inside Out Project in which people around the world stand for what they believe in by pasting giant black-and-white portraits on the walls and streets of their communities.

Time is Now, Yalla! is currently underway in Israel (Tel Aviv and Haifa) and Palestine (Bethlehem and Ramallah). JR and his team have set up four giant photobooths, which will run September 3-11, turning out about 1,000 photos each day. Palestinians and Israelis are invited to visit and, in exchange for a personal statement, receive a large-format portrait they can paste wherever they wish – either on their own or as part of a group.

"When I first worked here on the Face2Face Project, I pasted portraits of Israelis and Palestinians doing the same jobs to show that, despite their differences, Palestinians and Israelis are similar enough to understand each other" said JR. "And then I came back in 2010 to set up the first tours allowing people to discover both Israel and Palestine during the same trip". "I return now simply as the printer, giving people the photobooths for free so they can take their own portraits, share what they stand for, and paste the streets of their communities. Everyone can tell a story through art, and the Time is Now to break down barriers to expression and give people the tools to be seen and heard."

In the context of Israeli/Palestinian situation reaching a crossroad, of a reshaping of the Arab world and of Israeli society urging for social justice, Time Is Now to listen to the silent majority which believes that the solution leading to 2 states for 2 peoples is waiting for implementation, and will bring peace and shared prosperity.

JR states: "We want to show that there is massive support for peace on both sides and that young people want to move forward, to secure their future. Our role is simply to create a positive public visual statement, in both Israel and Palestine …"

The project is called "Time Is Now, Yalla!" because "Yalla!" is an Arabic word used by both Palestinians and Israelis to say "let's go".

JR created the Inside Out Project after he received the TED Prize – which grants one remarkable person a wish to change the world. With this wish, JR sought to unleash the largest global, participatory art project. Since he made his wish in March 2011, more than 40,000 people from Brazil, Tunisia, France, the US, Germany, Pakistan, Japan, New Zealand, Uruguay, Thailand and other countries have contributed their portraits.

Inside Out in Israel & Palestine: Time is Now, Yalla! is expected to be the single largest group action to date. Once the project is completed, a book will be published in Arabic, Hebrew, French and English to illustrate its impact. A short documentary will also be made by director Alastair Siddons, who has been following the Inside Out Project and already released a short film about Tunisia.

"It is impossible not to be inspired by the images and stories emerging from JR's Inside Out Project," said TED Prize Director Amy Novogratz. "Too often positive stories get lost amidst conflict, and I believe Inside Out is chipping away at external perceptions and letting people show the world who they are and what they believe at their core. I have no doubt that Time is Now, Yalla! will give way to more beautiful images, powerful moments, and hopefully an opportunity for change."

About the Inside Out Project

InsideOut is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images are made into posters and sent back to the project's co-creators, for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or as part of a group. Posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window, to a wall of an abandoned building, or in a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and made available online at http://www.insideoutproject.net/.

InsideOut Project is supported by the TED Prize which offers every year to an exceptional individual "one wish to change the world". The TED Prize is helping to combat poverty, take on religious intolerance, improve global health, tackle child obesity, advance education, and now inspire art around the world.

Announcing Gregory Euclide limited edition print of the artwork featured on Bon Iver's Bon Iver album cover; 50% of net proceeds to charity

David B. Smith Gallery and artist Gregory Euclide are very pleased to announce the limited edition print release of Euclide's artwork created for the cover of Bon Iver's new album, Bon Iver. Euclide's image is printed on archival Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper in an edition of 500, pencil signed, and numbered by the artist. The paper size is 24 x 24 inches.

The prints are available for $225 each, with 50% of net proceeds donated to Agapé Riding Center and the Greater Mankato Area United Way Connecting Kids Program, two non-profit organizations based in South Central Minnesota. Agapé Riding Center's equine assisted-learning program aims to help young people develop a sense of connection to the self, others, and the natural environment. The Greater Mankato Area United Way Connecting Kids program educates parents and guardians about opportunities in the community for kids to get involved, and provides financial resources to households that need help in order for their children to participate in youth development programs. About the Artist

Gregory Euclide is an artist and teacher living in the Minnesota River Valley. His reverence for the natural world originates from his childhood in rural Wisconsin, where he developed an appreciation for experience in the land. The interconnectedness of the environment and culture has led Euclide to an exploration of how landscape (a way of viewing the land) is tied to the actual treatment and use of land.

Euclide received his MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and was awarded two Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants through the National Endowment for the Arts and a Jerome Foundation Residency through the Blacklock Nature Sanctuary. His work was featured in Badlands: New Horizons in Landscape at MASS MoCA (March 2008-April 2009) and is currently included in the exhibition Otherworldly at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. Euclide's work will also be seen at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, New Jersey in the October exhibition Deconstructing Nature, and in Small Worlds, opening in November at the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio.
